I'll start then !! I'm doing my best to get this site up and working
but it's not very easy at the moment. I've just
replaced my servo's and given the "beasty" a major
overhaul. There's still some work to do but all
being well I should be flying again in the next
couple of days! But while I'm doing that I can't
sort the site..Oh well ...
I've changed to tower pro servo's and have found
that swapping them isn't very straight forward.
I'll explain on the site once I've caught up with
myself...
Oh and thanks for the comments I've received it's
appreciated. I hope you like the site and it's not
a waste of time ....
Cheers..

22E comments
I have found out that them upgraded rotor head
parts are not good. After just hovering around
in my living room and out side I managed to
break one alredy.
Anybody that's wants a 22E for parts let me know.
Keep up the good work Jon. I think I am going to
check on the 22D and try to fly that

parts for 22e
what knock off is the 22e. My local stores don't
carry the walkera line and I was wondering which
parts to use for my 22e?
Thanks

Message for Tom...
Are you serious about selling your model for
spares? I might be interested...sorry can't Email
from work !
Bob, I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Are
you after upgraded parts or looking for spares?

22E Separates
Johnny,
Love your site!
Have you figured out how to do separates yet? I
already have brushless main motr. esc, but I
don't know how/what to do for a esc for the tail
and a gyro - or how to even hook it up.
Keep up the great work!

Great Site
Waste of time to have a site dedicated to the
22E???? NEVER!!!
I'm veru glad it's here as I have one and finally
can hover it and now I love it!!! I have much to
share and ask.
Keep it going.
P.S. Anyone know why the Walkera forum is locked?

22E alternative parts
There are 2 clones of the 22E that I know about
and the parts are all interchangeable. One is the
Venom Nightranger 3D, often called VNR3D
(www.venomaircorps.com), and the other is the Dark
Knight 2SE from Selective RC
Inc.(http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=696)
I hope this helps..
Tim at rcandme.com is great for 22E parts. I have
also just found www.uce-bestbuy.com. They have
pretty cheap parts for the 22E.
|
Update
I've just added a few more paragraphs to do with
setting up the rotor head. In the mean time I'm
bidding on a new 22. Mine seems to have so much
wrong with it now that it's cheaper to but the
whole lot rather than buy the spares. Anything I
don't need I'll prbably sell on Ebay.
Mark, no I've not figured out the seperates at
the moment but I guess that it will be similar to
going brushless. Another ESC, motor and then
giro. Then a lead that will provide power to the
tail rotor ESC and Giro? The worst part will be
the power distribution. Getting form the battery
to the two ESC's and 4 in 1.

Wlakera site Flying lessons
I've just been looking at the Walkera "Learning
To
Fly".http://www.walkera.com/en/ser_teaching_main.j
sp?la=en&i=12&cla=S
I'd be carefull following this. I think there may
well be some glowing mistakes and it looks like
it's been written for non-electric heli's. What
does everbody else think?
|
Thanks John
Thank You John for the info on the 22E. I have
one about a month and haven't flown it
successfully. I've tried to make some
adjustments but not 100% successful. If I have
something to add I will pass it along your way!
Most of the comments I have heard are that the
heli likes to pitch itself left or right and is
hard to correct. I have this problem as well.

2 things
nice site... i recently crashed my heli and
found out that the main rod is bent (how do i
bend it back. i already have it out.) And also
when i try to hover it is very unpredictable...
any suggestions
thx
PS thank you so much for making a site for the
22e :D

johny
i checked out the site you wrote and it doesnt
recognize the web page :S... could u tell me how
you got to the place your tlkin bout on

Site
Hi John, We are one of Importers of Walkera
range of Helis in South Africa, and just wanted
to say that you have done a good job of
explaining setup etc to the Layman.. Well Done
|
response
Jason,
first it's going to be difficult to straighten
that main shaft. There's a couple of ways to try
but I would'nt hold out to much hope. To check it
roll it over a flat surface.
1. Drill a hole the same diameter as the shaft
into a piece of wood. Then fit the shaft into the
drill and "drill" it into the hole. It might
work, it works for small diameter drill bits. or,
2. Put it into a vice and tighten up the vice.
turn the shaft and do it again untill you no
longer have a high spot.
3. Lay the shaft on a solid hard surface and
hammer the high spots down. Keep turning it and
hitting it until it's staight.
These things do go all over the plcae untill you
get used to it but there are one or two things
that make a difference.
1.Make sure all of the moving links between the
servos and the head are tight but move
smoothly.Any slop will let the little *** fly
where it likes. Not much but enough to make it
frustrating.
2.Make sure that the center of gravity is spot on
both horizontaly and lateraly.
It's come out very well, which web site is it you
are after? The main Walkera forum is locked and
has been for weeks now.
As for the site, I'm trying to add a little
everyday. I'm even going back and making sure
that the stuff I've already written is correct.
Keep your eyes on it guys. In the mean time my
replacement should be here any day....There'll be
trouble if it isn't !!
|
site
thx for the instructions johny. oh an nver mind
about the site i found what i was looking for...
and to all people who visit this site and own a
22e... was this the first rc helicopter that you
bought? (this is the first helicopter ive ever
owned).

geeting if off the ground
Hi great site ! I live the uk and i am glad some
one who knows what there on about. I have had my
22e froaa bout 2 months but still not got it to
fly ! Heres the story . I connected it up in a
rush ithink battery first. then the controles
unit. It took off ! Don't think id read the
manaul proberly ! I'd payed with dip stwiches
and or may have been postive trim on there . I
repaired main motor blade holders and the the
main bar linkage (the ball had broken off) and
bought some carbon fibre blades. Then i seemed to
get no power . So took my local model shop. He
recommend a battery and a new charger. Hooked it
all up power ! I tried trimming it up in the
front living room again not realisng the dip
switch power thing smash (while everthing was on
the motor connected etc ) had a spare blade
holder so put this on this had also smashed .It
had damaged the tail boom dent and bend. Which i
straighted by hand (Maybe better in a vice?).
tried to fly the heli lots of shaking no lift
full throttle easied up the rear boom . No
joy .Back to the hobby shop. He tried trimming
it but could n't fly it it ! said there was a
delay on left and right stick. Ie need to put
left to put back on right.puaes before input (
still not checked this out) He also said there
was play on the back motor 1 - 2 mm. Replacing
this would make it fly? I have yet to do it due
to a flat move . From your site it looks like i
need a sim kit and the cable for the pc and to
check al the measurements. I am lossing faith
and pocket !I have flown a syma dragon fly at 30
pounds .Have had couple crashs but repaired
easily and foind it easy to fly . Its basically
up and down and tail left and right on it's
axis . My hobby shop man thinks this the 2ee is
too bigger jump? I even treid sending back ! I
have had some feedback from a heli site ( the
name escapes me ) they have given me the dip
settings ( if you could these agin i would be
greatful and would value any help comments .
I'll follow your step but think my heli man has
done all these checks ( he did say its nose
heavy . Th heli site suggests sticking quarters
on the nose ? surely this would make it heavier
and they should go on the tail/ Help ! cheers
Sean

Great site-thanks
As a new 22E owner, your site (and its
contributors) offer an excellent source of info
specific to the 22E. It has saved me a lot of
time filtering through the generic newsgroups.
Please keep up the great work!!!

Reply to Sean
Sean, I'll try and help..
First you can check the Center of gravity dead
easy. Turn the rotor head until the flybar is
across the model. Pick the model up by the fly
bar with a finger under each arm. The thing
should balance in a level attitude. I've got a
small spirit level to check this thats sits
rather nicely on the small wing on the tail boom.
bearing in mind the C of G on a stock 22E is not
very good. You need to add weigh the the nose.
But if you have a brushless motor with stock
batteries it's just about right without the
weight added. Then it has to be put back if you
are using Li Po as the battery is longer and
protudes behind the balance point. It does'nt
matter to much what you use for weight. I used
some nuts an bolts but moddeling clay can be
pretty good.
|
The reply from John G
Cheers John sorry its took so long moved house !
Still not flown it , Ive seen a few sites on the
web and yeah sounds a good idea with weight. Ive
checked out the twister bell which he reomed as
an easier buy? Ive just viewed he set up which
reminds of the other problem (sorry !) on
slecting left and right bacj=k foward there
seems tob a delay ( I saw avideo on how it
should be on the twister bell - which can be
found at model flight com . could this be the
receiver ? He religned the swash plate at moved
the setting after a smash . Im running a non
brushless motor standard battery ( have two )
two answer your prior question on th balancing .
|
it wont take off!
Hi i have changed the dip switchs and out the
battery to front as per mod on RC universe made
my own crash kit with ping pong balls and
knitting needles the head and tail turn but it
wont take off serously thinking of seeling
unless some one can help . Im thinking of £100
with carbon fibre blades and extra battery sound
reasonable ?
|
Center of Gravity issue
You said "The obvious one is the Center of
gravity. In it's stock condition these things
are way too tail heavy. The only way to correct
it is to add weight inside the nose of the
canopy and it's surprising how much is needed."
But, an easy way to balance the CG for the 22E
is to place the battery vertically instead of
horizontal. Just place it very close (almost
touching) to the main motor, in a vertical way.
Remove existing elastic rubber bands and use
plastic zip strips to fix the battery in place.

22E comments
I got my new 22E the other day and went out and
flew it. The controls were real touchy. On
landing I hook a skid and fliped it over. Broke
the Bell Mixer assembly so I need to know how to
sent up the other one so that I can still fly.
11.1 Li-PO that will make your hair stand on
end. lol

22E Spares
Well done John an excellent site. I'm UK based &
have had my 22e for 8 months, 5 crashes not even
got it to hover yet, so much for RTF, anyway
replaced nearly everything that rotates, some of
it twice. However I found a very reasonable
source of cheap parts & although Hong Kong based
the postage is not over the top, they can be
found on ebay under sellers " beconmart" the
shop is called Becon Square. If anyone knows
anywhere in Herefordshire who offer flying
lessons I would be interested. I wont be beaten
it WILL fly. Best wishes?
|
Dragonfly 22E
I'm also a newbie to these things. I own two of
them. Got them for 119.00 including shipping. My
mechanic set one of them up for me and he flew it
with no problems.. Also if U live in the States
the cheapest place to get Walkera parts R from
RCZilla.com. I bought both of my 22's from there
and got them the next day after I paid for them.
|
How I got it to hover
I found it a pig to hover, I bought a fixed
pitch Twister V2... Then I figured out out to
hover that in a couple of hours. I then tried
the 22e and what you know, it now hovers.
Either its jealous or its me that got better.
|
Ceiling Crash
I've just getting to hover stage after 3 days
(HAVING SAME PROBLEMS AS EVERYONE ELSE IE
PULLING TO THE RIGHT ON TAKE OFF and control
sensitivity), when accidently knocked the
throttle for it to lung into the ceiling
shearing the blade pitch controls. Where do I
get spares from and how easy is it to fix. What
I've seen it requires total disassembly of top
rotor section. Is it worth throwing it out and
buying a new one for £50?
|
Fixing Crashed 22E
Hi,
Whats the part which is the arm where the blades
pitch control connects to?
What is the trick of poping out the arm from the
swash plate?
Thanks for your help.
Impressed b your hovering skills Johny. I'm
about as good as your 1st video!

Very Nice out of box...
Hi!
I just bought the "22E v2", and iva read the
tips& trix that 'John' written. Many thanks for
that.
I have almost no experience of RC-helis(just a
few (dual-)flights bout 5yrs ago. But I have a
lot of experience in Fixed wing RC´s, but this
was 20yrs ago. My job is 'real' heli flying so
it makes it a bit easyer, I guess. (MBB Bo105-
the only real "3d-heli". "Even birds are
jealous")
I just took a brief look for no parts loose,
then I flew mine after only charging battery.
(mine came with 1800mA Li-Po). I chranked upp
to 'idle' and checked the main rotor blades for
tracking, the track is ok(differs about 2mm...is
this bad, och or good?)...also checked so the
fly bars where in track and that it was about
level when main rotor was.
It flew really fine, with not so big trouble 4
me.
There seems like its missing one screw out of
the box. Above the main gear there is a hole in
a part covering the main shaft, this hole is
threaded and seems to miss an 'insex' screw.
There is a similar hole with insex srew
underneath the main gear wich holds the main
gear to the fixing plate(fixing patch accordning
to walekar spare part list).
Do anyone know if there shloud be a srew in the
uppe hole?
Another Q: if I change to the brushless
enginge, do I need a separate speed controller?
And third Q: I set my Li-Po with the long side
from 'side to side' in heli(abeam helis
direction) and close to engine. With this config
It appears to be in rather good balance.
How much weight did you other add to nose, and
how was the batt. mounted..? (do I need to add
weight in front?)
Regards / AAKEE

forgot to write:
Hi again,
I forgot to write that I´m of course gonna do
the checks that 'John' have learned me...I just
was to curious to W8 4 the time thee checks
would take.
|
No its set up !
Adjusted.
My Heli was rather well setup, all servos had
their arms set to the proper position. No servo
was in perfekt position so I had to adjust the
control rods a bit from 36mm, in order to get
the swash plate in level...ended up almost
exaktly as I started.
The fly bar wasnt centered at all, so one of the
fly bars was "flying" about 6mm more offset then
the other(guess this make inbalance...).
After I made one of the pitch links longer(one
turn) the mail rotor blades was in perfekt track.
The vibrations seems to have decreased at lot.
So, next thing is to check if it flyes better.
|
Good job, and feedback
Great job of putting the setup instructions in
clear English. Thank you.
I'm still a little fuzzy on setting the PIT and
PLT though, once the blades have been set to -1
deg @ zero throttle. Have any new insights on that?
|
pictures
Any chance of pictures on how to set the
helicoptor up, with distances required, shown on
photos.
Has anyone had difficulty getting off the blade
holders. I can't seem to unscrew the connecting
screws to the T bar.
|
Rear Blade Connectors
I broke the Rear Blade Connectors, and can't
find them in the spare parts list. They are the
short connectors that actually podiyion the
blade holders. Any help on what to order will be
greatly appreciated.

Parts | Stock | Pics
Hi, GREAT to find this website! Thanks very much!
I, like most here, have very similiar stories
regarding the DF#22E, I have only "attempted" to
hover mine about 6 times, Broke some ball-links,
and boom, have been waiting to get FMS/PRE-
Flight (on its way now:) .. something I would
like to see is the use of one of those 3-D
rendering Pictures of the DF#22E, with EACH
part, and SCREW/BOLT Listed and Labeled --
albeit, in a STOCK Version - Something for
us "newbs" to "quality check" at a glance, I am
missing/lost one of those "insex" screws located
on the main rotor also, but find there is also a
second "place" for one, but Do not know if I
need to fill it in, etc.. hehe, yeah, Diagrams
would be nice, I have a picture of one, original
manual version, I would be happy to share
(upload) with parts/etc pointed out.. just let
me know.. REALLY looking forward to frequenting
here often! ! Thanks to All!
Oh: Anyone have an opinion on that DF#50?
that "mini-hand-size/indoor-3D" model? (115$usd)
Just curious. Thanks in advance!

Guilty for not keep up with the site !!
Hi folks..glad somebody is getting some use of
my ramblings. I have to apologise for not
keeping up with it and finishing off what I've
started. I've had a few problems and have just
changed jobs. I did have plenty of time at my
last job to waffle on for hours and an internet
connection but I sorry to say that I've lost it
now and have very little time to keep at the
site. I've got loads I can add but I'm afraid
it's going to have to wait for time being..sorry
Guys...but I will try my best to get back on top
of it. I can't even seem to find the time to fly
the Beasty either although it's currently in one
piece and ready to go...

FMS
My sim cable supplied only has a standard 3.1
jack plug. I'm told by the supplier to put it in
my mic on the sound card. How do I set this on
the resource of the FMS as ti requires a COM
port.
Currently frustrated with key board. Appreciate
help.

No Problemo Johnny G. . :)
Hi, Not a Problem JohnnyG, I think we all can
relate to the "time" & "Other" thing.. hehe.. :)
It is still Really Good to find ANY dedicated
support/info for these, delicate little !@#$'s,;)
Peter: Good Question, I am still witing for my
PC/controller cable to arrive, using "PRE-
Flight" (preflightsim.com), I could only GUESS
that either the "no interface", or that last
one "PIC - Serial".... There can't be any harm
in trying all of them, as there are only 4
available, afaik? .. Anyways. untill i actually
receive mine, sorry i cannot shed any more light
on that one.. Thanks for posting though :)
I'm sure others will have the same Question.
have a good flight! :)
Garrett.

After setup flight performance...
Hi!
Now I have flown about 4-5 'batt´s' and it flies
about the same as before..a little less
vibrations due to the(now)centered flybar and
the blades tracking 100%.
I would perhaps like a little bit more response
from the sticks, thinking about moving the rods
to the outher hinge on the servos.
It flyes really stable, and if now wind it
allmost hovers 4 it self, if ya put it at hover
at 1½ meter or so. I also flew some circuits
today and eights at about 1½ to 2meters height.
So fare, about 8-9 chargings and 8-9 full
(battery draw out) flights and still no damage
and everything works fine:-)

Have any of you tried DYNAMIC head balancing yet?
This technique will eliminate almost all vibration
from any machine.

Serial simulator cable
Hi Heli Gurus,
I got a serial cable for the transmitter to fly
on the FMS simulation software. The system does
not recognize the transmitter at all. Any
suggestions on this?
Thanks,

upgrades
Hi !
Now Ive flown about 12-14 charging´s and its
still working fine. No probs at all, no screws
or parts have come loose.
I have made trafic circuits and 8¨s in front of
me, and also some bigger circuits wotiout any
probs at all.
Just mounted a brushless enginge+ ESC and tried
e little hoover outside apartment. works fine,
but to windy conditions to fly.
I´m really satisfied with this small chopper.

swasch plate ???
Hi !
I saw that my swaschplate wasnt so tight even
when heli was new and newer flewn. So I orderd a
spare swasch plate, and the new one is bout only
one third or 1/4 och the play between the
stationary and rotating part. The new one seems
really snug and the old one seems to be a bit
bad...I think I´ll get better response w/ the
new one...

FMS/Walkera 22 E interface
To fly your beasty with FMS you need a cable and
an interface. The interface is PPJoy. Just
Google it. You van download it at
http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/PPJoy.htm. If
The documentation you find doesn´t satisfy you
be humble. There are a lot of people out there
giving us lazy jacks a free ride. This page is a
good example. Thanks for your page, it has
helped me to fly my third 22E. I crashed two
into mincemeat.
|
Sorry
I have been using my walkera 4 TX for FMS.
Walkera 22E TX doesn't seem to work. So By a
Walkera 4 instead of a new joystick. The more I
learn about RC Heli the more I realise that the
above said humble reffers also to me.

Gaining flight
Hi
after 2 months in the model shop i should be
gaining back my 22e (fingers crossed) he/I can't
set it up ! After giving up the first model i
bought i second in vain atempt to set up. He
says there is no adjustment on the radio gear ?
Ive since been flying at wister bell but find it
lacks power and clip of the blades is £10 a
throw . This can be £20 if both upper and lower
go .
Back to the 22e The model shops colleague is now
looking at it (I'm losing patience !) All I have
is hoover with training gear about half foot in
the air before it went in the model shop. I've
not flowen in doors . Do i need the lipo gear
(esc, speed controller etc to progress to
flight?) Im wondered when i join fo rthis club
if it will fly better in doors (if i get back )
my next option to save for a tex rex . Expensive
but i've heard "the daddy of RC helis ? Any
thoughts ? Im really thinking of ebaing the
two !

Need Help With My Walkera 22E
Hello,
My name is John and I think it’s great that you
created this site! I am brand new to flying and
just purchased a Walkera 22E. I received it on
11/7 and crashed it the same day! I wish I knew
about your site before as I have learned a lot
before I go rushing again to fly. I am waiting
on some linkage parts and a main blade holder,
which should take care of the mechanical part. I
have another problem when I go to use the back
blade on my remote it only responds to one side
and spins around to the left. Any suggestions I
may try to resolve this problem? I am so upset
and hope I can fix this, so I can enjoy flying
the right way by taking my time. Any suggestions
you may have would be great.
Sincerely,
John Sherack

it left and it goes left and forward. when i
slid it right it dips right and backwards and
takes off. can you help me please?

hover
After crashing a few times and spending twice as
much on parts as buying it I've managed to finally
get it to hover a bit. It does still seem to drift
quite a bit all over the place. Im not sure it it
needs more balancing and reduced slop in the
linkage or its just me controlling it poorly. I'll
keep working at it.
|
Reply's to all......
well folk's I really sorry that this site has'nt
been updated for quite some time. I'm glad that
some of you are finding it a help and maybe
saving your models from some serious damage.
So I'll do my best anyway to try and answer some
of your questions.
First, these things do slide to the left on take
off. It can't be helped as it is the action of
the tail rotor that does it. The only real
solution I beleive is to counter it with some
right cyclic stick. This takes a bit of practice
but I do manage it sometimes. It might be
possibe to adjust the swash plate so that it
sits slightly down on the left side but it will
take some messing about to get it right i'd
guess. Then it will only try to fly tht way all
the time once you get off the ground so it's a
case of one or the other..
General...I had a freind of mine fly my beasty
the other day. I'm a bit carefull who I ket near
it but this guy is aReal Hel test Pilot and a
very keen model flyer so I though it worth the
risk. He's been flying all sorts of model Heli's
and he made a few intersting comments. First the
22E is a hand full. You have to fly it all the
time wheather you like or not and even if it is
set up well with very little slop it will still
slide about a fair bit. I was pleased that I
could hover it better than he could! He also
mentioned that having "rates" on the TX would
probabl help, but without some major changes the
lay out of these things it would be quite
difficult. It would mean putting in a seperate
giro, and speed controllers for the tail rotor
and main rotor. Not very easy and certainly not
cheap.
I guess when it's said the back blade it means
the tail rotor? If so then it sound if the giro
needs adjusting. The 22E uses tail rotor spped
to over come the torque of the main rotor. Te
model will naturally turn to the left because of
this torque reaction so the tail rotor only has
to slow down and let it happen. To turn right
the speed is increased. Normaly the giro will
keep the model facing in a straight line until
you tell it differently.
Mad guy. That sounds like the correct reaction,
but be carefull that you are not moving the
stick forward and backwards as you move it left
or right..as I've said the slide left is normal..
There is very little adjustment on the 22E's
radio. All you have is PLT and PIT (is that
right?) Neither will work unless the no.8 switch
on te back f the TX is moved to the left. Put it
back when you have finished!! Anyway the one on
the left of the TX adjusts the maximum pitch on
the blades at full power. If it is to hight the
motor will bog..or rather the rotor speed will
slow and you will loose hight as the motor will
be unable to turn the head with the extra drag
created by to much pitch. I hold mine up
carefully in one hand and run it. Listen
carefully to the head speed..start with max
pitch..knob at the 5 o'clock position...ish.
Then if the rotor spped sounds like it is
droppng reduce the pitch with the knob..
The other knob (on the left)controls the power
compared to the rotor pitch by changing the
starting point. In other words you will notice
the pitch change on the blades at zero power. I
again run the thing in my hand to adjust
this...be carefull !! and hold on tight !! aply
paoer and feel the thing trying to lift out of
your hand.It should only start to get light at
half power. Reset the no, 8 switch and then try
to fly. If it leaps into the air reduce the
righr hand knob up...check the rotor rpm as you
apply pitch and adjust as neccessary...the
trouble with this is that you need to be fairly
competent at fly to check it...
How am I doing? Well I stoved the beasty in the
other day but's it's fit again now.Although I
don't get the chance to fly it as much as I did.
Then again my flying to the left, then to the
right and back again is'nt to bad if a little
ragged. I'll admit that the bug has got me bad
and I have just bought a second hand Century
Hawk Pro...twice the size of a 22E!!! nearly
scared the pants of me when it arrived...It is
second hand and I've just finished pulling it to
bits and rebuilding it. I've had a couple of
problems trying to start it but I guess that
I'll get there .... The beasty will remain my
indoor model and training machine.
Thanks again for the reply's. If anybody wants
to answer some the questions, please go a
head..keep at it folks...it's worth it..?

walkera parts
i have found that http://www.rcmods.co.uk/ are
good for parts if your in the UK they do all
spears and upgrade parts for the 22e and some
other walkera heli

Good work
Nice job on the site. I've read the Radd's as
well, awesome job.

Great
Yor whole site is very informative, I have just
purchased a 22E . Thanks
|
Great site
Thanks for the site John, the information has been
invaluable. I've wanted to get an RC heli for a
long time and finally my wife got a 22E for
Christmas! It has been surprisingly resilient
(some might say otherwise), although extremely
difficult to fly. As you say, the 22E is
definitely not RTF - if anything it's RTCD (Ready
To Cause Damage)!
I've flown 10 or so times now, had one major crash
which took out the main rotor blades and snapped
the flybar connector's hinge pin (the bit with the
cap melted on), which I have replaced and improved
from bits lying around. Not bad for my first RC
heli, I'm loving it immensely. I've just ordered
some spare parts anticipating the next crash(!).
New Zealand 22E owners - check out
airbornerc.com.au for parts, they're much cheaper
than NZ suppliers I've found, and shipping is very
reasonable to NZ. Thanks again for the site, John!

The Funky Chicken
Hi there to all, Happy New Year to all. I have
just bought my 22E three days ago. Well all said
and done with charged batteries and all I took
to the sky like a bat out of hell just to find
that I am not getting any lift, well back to the
drawing board check all links and pitch
incidences, unlocked the radio reset the rotor
head gave all the throw to the head and tried
again. Well this time it went up but the tail
rotor motor goes bananas, the poor heli did not
know if it was coming or going it just kept
turning on it's main rotor axis. I tried
adjusting the gain and the output to the tail
rotor with no success. The only why I can get
this chicken it the air is to disconnect the
tail rotor and anchor the heli to four bricks
with some string, whack the throttle open and
get it to hover and let the bricks take care of
the rest. If you know of anything else short of
seperating the whole heli and go with a totally
new TX/RX,ESC and shaft driven tail rotor and
independant gyro please let me know. I am
getting fairly aggitated with trying to fly with
four bricks attached to my heli but if that is
the way to go I will.
Well that is me hope you all enjoyed your
festive season.

Supplier of Walkera 22E parts
Well I just got sucked into the RC Helicopter
hobby. A friend bought a 22E and before I could
get mine he crashed his. So I bought mine and
another one for him plus several spare parts and
am also going to order two Sonic aluminum rotor
heads when he gets them in stock.
All of this from www.rcandme.com. I was helped
by a guy named Tim and since I ordered so much
stuff from him he gave me a deal. So far the
only negative is the USPS. They don't get in a
hurry.
Tim was extremely helpful and took a lot time
helping me over the phone and on a cold phone
call. He had never helped me before. I couldn't
be more pleased with his help.
So... www.rcandme.com for your Walkera 22E parts.

22E
Hi I buy most my parts from the local hobby
shop, for the venom 3d actually , (same heli)
parts are cheap , just as well :)
|
well done
found your web site today and enjoyed reading
about your experiences with the 22e .I have just
upgraded from fixd to collective pitch and have
bought myself a 22e prior to reading your info.
I'll now be taking an hour off flying to do some
setting up before hand many thanx Stu Cooper

congrats
This is by far one of the best personal/reference
model sites done for any mini heli. Congratulations

R/C Helli Newbie
Hi John
just a quick note to say thanks for a great site
i got my 22e a week ago and after following you
advice on pre-flight setup and Radd's rotary
wing training (see link)i am into short hovers
allready.
The main issue has been seting up the gyro, the
tail is not to bad but still a bit twitchy. Any
advice guys??
keep it coming john....

22e Simulator training for a newbie
Thanks John for doing a great job on this web
site. I just ordered my 22e on e-bay last saturday
from 'uce-techcom'. They offered the best
deal, €103 including shipping to Tenerife, where I
live, and a 1300mah LI-PO.
Before deciding for the 22e I had carefully
compared different offerings and it seemd clear to
me the 22e was a very powerful heli for a very
reasonable price.
Then, after ordering, I started searching on the
internet for user forums, etc. That is also how I
found your site.
One thing that striked me was that the 22e seems
to be unforgiving to set up and fly. Is that true?
How does it compare with other helicopters in its
class?
And how does it compare to the FMS models like the
Hughes and ThreeDee?
I am currently flying these models with a joy
stick. I realise that that is not the same as with
the radio, but I figure I can train my responses
and get used to the movements of the heli. Once I
get my 22e packages I plan to do a lot of sim
flying with the radio and supplied cable.
Which of the helicopters approaches the best the
22e? I can fly the Hughes quite well, but I tend
to over control the ThreeDee a lot, and it also
lacks the 'windvane' effect to line its tail up
automatically.
I also realise that FMS doesn't simulate wind and
turbulence, but then again, flying in real also
has some advantages over flightsims, as you have
normally a better view of the heli and its
orientation.
Any input, comments or suggestions from you and
all readers would be very wellcome.

Great Forum
This looks like a great forum. I have had my 22E
for about 2 weeks and crashed it 3 times already.
I have replaced a few parts, but now will
actually follow your instruction that I now have
which are 100% better than those that come with
the 22E. Wish me luck. What cable are you using
to use the FMS simulator? Great Blog, keep it up.

main blades
are you suppose to tighten the main blades all
the way so they don't move?new to this so will
probably have more questions later on,would
appreciate any help you could give me on the
setup.
|
main blades
Hello Dave
I was told to back them off once tightened so
they self straighten when the head spools up but
dont flap about. The tighter the are the faster
the head will need to spin to straighten them,
its a matter of trail and error. Just make sure
the tension is as equal as possible.
Also if you do stuff it try the attached link
for spares.

excellent forum
Hi John,
Well, thanks for a great site. I`ve had my 22E
for a month now and followed your instructions
to the letter and now I can hover! wayhay! I`ve
had a few probs along the way and a few crashes
too.At one point I had no lift at all, turned
out I had to adjust the pit and plt knobs so I
had plus 1/4 on each. Oh and make sure you move
dip switch 8 so they adjust!!took me ages to
work that one out but hey I am Irish!!lol. I had
a grub screw fall out of the lower main shaft
support which gave really bad tail wag and just
recently I`ve had a prob with erratic behaviour,
not me, the heli! Unplugged the servos and
reseated them in the 4 in 1 and it`s fine now.
I`ve also put my battery across the frame
although a 10c 2200 is a bit big. I`m using the
original brushed motor and waiting for my
brushless to arrive but I still put the speed
controller in the nose next to the 4 in 1 and
this seems to help balance. Lastly I`ve put the
servos on the shortest crank hole and this has
made it a lot less twitchy to fly. She still
takes off to the left but I put that down to
downdraught and ground effect as once I get
above about 2 feet she is much easier to control.
I hope my limited experiences can be of some use
to fellow 22E owners and again thanks John for
producing a good , informative site.

v2 head set up
I found a page on rcuniverse. com which explains
how to set up the cnc sonix head.

The thread is Sonix v2 CNC head setup for 22e.

Hi Guys
Well I'm still guilty of not adding any more to
the site. I'm sorry if this a hinderance..I'll
admit that I have concentrating my time on my
Century Hawk..I bit adultarous I know!
Any way I'm glad some people are getting on.
It's real challenge and feels great when it
starts to come together...Dave...tighten the
blades until when you pick the model up they
droop at the bolts under their own weight. No
more no less...I look along the flybar paddle
and align them with the rectangular flybar
holder. Bear in mind that the both surfaces are
curved..Imagine a straight line running through
the middle (the cord line).
As for the Hawk..It's finally fly after 3 months
of playing around with it and bad weather.I can
confirm that it's twice as easy to fly than the
22E ! It just floats off the ground...
Good luck guys ... Oh and girls...

great little heli
i got my 22 out of the box and powered it up it leaped about 8ft
in to the air three times in total i then sorted the pitch out and
the 22 is a steady heli i turned the gyro up until the tail waged
then i backed it of a mill or two it flies really well, i flew it in a
tail wind it shot into the sky and before i knew what was
happening it was at least a hundred foot in the air and about
150 yrds away it was nerve racking but i got it back and as it
landed so did i, for the money its not bad i would reccomend it
as stepping stone and for intermediates

CNC HEAD
i was thinking about investing in a cnc head for
my 22e,if anyone has one please tell me the
advantages and how much better it performs?
|
cnc head
Hi dave, I`ve just fitted a cnc head to mine but
I haven`t had a chance to try it yet. It`s made
by jeff at xmseller on ebay and it`s a work of
art! I`ve managed to fit it fairly straight
forward although the ball links are smaller than
the walkera ones and I`ve had to add some losi
ball links to the new head to compensate and get
it to fit the walkera pushrods. From what I`ve
read about the sonix head this one goes on
straight forward although sayin that I have
tower pro servos and I know the walkera head
works backwards compared to everything else??!!!
The servos took abit of settin up. Anyway enough
of that I`ll keep you posted on how she performs!

more twitchy
hello you lot you know how twitchy the 22 is well i found a way
of making it even more so just like a hyper active child on e
numbers after drinking red bull and consuming raw sugar cain it
is fantastic i am only doing basic moves but the little twitchy 22
is now even more fun and even more of a hand full all you have
to do is buy a set of semi symmetrical blades for a hummingbird
elite cp. prs and you have a little tornado they are also about
half the weight of the blades that came with it also i have been
running my 22 on an 11.1v 1050 mah li poly with no conversion
you get 10 to 15 minute flights, happy landings...steve

Heli progression
Hello everyone....just thought I'd add my ten
penn'orth. I've just got a 22E (last week) and
think it is a great little heli. I started
learning to fly helis in January this year with a
Century Lama IV co-axial. I'm pleased I did
because it taught me an awful lot regarding the
mechanics of flight regarding helicopters. I have
heard, and read, many views on this particular
subject and have come to the conclusion that all
those that say that starting on a co-axial is a
waste of time are nuts. Without my beloved Lama
(soon to be up for sale along with many spares!) I
would have spent months and ££££££'s on ANY fixed
pitch or collective pitch model just getting it
off the ground. Take my word for it that if you
are a beginner.....get a co-axial :-) After my
Lama I moved to a fixed pitch (Centurys
Hummingbird V4) and after only a short time was
able to steadily hover, pirouette and perform
(carefully and slowly) any number of tail on
manoeuvers....again this was because of the stick
control I had gained flying the co-axial. I was
still a little nervy and tentative though. Then
came my 22E. What a twitchy lttle git that was.
The Hummingbird is twitchy enough (and indeed a
friend told me that if you could fly a Hummingbird
you could fly anything because of its twitchiness)
but the 22E seemed unflyable. Not so. After about
a minute of being scared to lift off the ground I
was up and "kind of" hovering. The nerves started
to settle and I now find it a pleasure to try and
fly. Interestingly, my Hummingbird flights are a
lot less demanding now and I am prepared to do
things with it now that I wouldn't have considered
pre 22E. The main reason, I think, is that the
Hummingbird is a lot more forgiving when you cock
up and crash it. It will take a lot of punishment
and just come back for more! If I was to deck the
22E in the manner in which I have decked the
Hummingbird, I can guarantee that 99% of the time
I would be looking at a reasonably expensive
repair with the bird being on my bench, and not
flying, for a day or two. The Hummingbird just
keeps giving. So, as Radd says on his site, go
slow and you'll get there faster. In my view,
start with a co-axial-move to a forgiving fixed
pitch then tentatively to the lovely (albeit
twitchy) 22E. Where next? I have no idea because I
still have such a lot to learn with the critters
I've got. I attempted turning the 22E head on
today (with crash gear on) whilst in a
hover.....flipping heck!! As my friend said-"It's
like starting all over." Onwards and, hopefully,
upwards! Cheers.

Progressing to I/C
I thought I'd say a thing or two about moving o
nto I/C as a comparison to the 22E.
It's quite a jump from a 22E to a Century Hawk p
ro. When I received it I was gob smacked at the s
ize. The first item out of the box was the c
anopy and could get about 3/4 of the 22E into i
t. Everything seemed huge! So obeying my own r
ules the first job was strip it down and rebuild i
t. With a machine that has a 4ft rotor diameter t
hats spins at 1600 rpm I wasn't happy with the i
dea that somebody else may have put it together a
nd the thought that something might fly off s
cared me! I'm glad I did. The bearings in the t
ail were shot and had to be replaced. One fell a
part on me as I removed it. After the strip, r
ebuild...locking everything with locktite I s
trapped the thing to the trusty workmate out in t
he garden and started it up...Hell was that s
cary! Lots of noise...lots of smoke and the b
lades spinning like a banshee...
S
o I checked the tracking..ran a tank of fuel t
hrough it and after a week or two until the w
eather was nice I started it up and put it in t
he middle of the lawn....here we go...I can tell y
ou I was pretty nervous. I can understand why h
aving help is good idea..So there it was ticking o
ver on the lawn. I slowly (very) increased the t
hrottle...All was fine until I go to about 60% a
nd then the thing decided that spinning on the s
pot was a good idea...and not slowly....I had j
ust about no tail control..Which ever way I t
ried to turn it it spun that way. So with a bit o
f discussion with various people and forums and m
ore tinkering was no success I had a moment of i
nspriation. The giro was running backwards and t
he nul was set one way. So the giro was c
ompensating the wrong way .. spinning one w
ay..nil was set the other...
S
o I sorted that out out. Back to the lawn..I w
ound it up and it "drifted" of the ground. Not l
ike the 22 at all. Not slide one way. No little j
ump off the ground. It just floated up to about 2
ft. It drifted a little in cyclic but that was i
t. Compared to the 22 it's easy.
I
spent a couple of hours out playing with a f
riend of mine who has a few Heli's of various s
izes on our local site for the first real flight a
nd manged to fly pretty much a full tank (15 m
ins)with the tail in. The bravest thing I did w
as take it up to about 15ft in the hover with a c
ouple of small turns to the left and right. As R
adds says, take it slow and I was beaming for q
uite a while after that.
T
he second session was not quite as much fun! A
lthough it started fine and I was back to some h
overing at about 6ft and getting a feel for it t
he engine cut on me! Thank God I was only 2ft up a
nd it just settled back down again. Now I can't g
et the motor running again! It's realy f
rustrating..
S
o how does it compare? Well it's easier to work o
n. But there is more to work on. Rigging it is m
uch harder and takes ages. I don't like all the s
moke and noise, but will have to put up with it. A
s for flying, and it's still early days I guess i
t is much much easier compared to the 22E. The 2
2 needs flying all of the time. The Hawk stays p
retty much were it's put and it's over c
orrection that causes any problems in the hover. I
guess that practice will sort that out. It h
andles weather 10 times better as I was flying a b
it wind which would blow the 22 away.
W
ould I recomend it? Yes if you can afford it and h
ave the space to fly. Do I still like the 22? Y
es but I don't have the time and facilites to f
ly it at the moment. It's sat ready to go.

More GREAT DF-22e Heli Tips (with Video)
I have been reading on this blog here for
months, it never gets old, and the information
created and started here is priceless,
and 'actually helpful/understandable' thanks to
EVERYONE posting here, and the admin who started
it all. . ok, with that said, here is a link to
some GREAT help on the Walkera/DragonFly22e,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8t-YHE18rs
this guy has made short videos (youtube),
demonstrating from scratch (beginner->more),
even how to 'repair, upgrade, and IMPROVE your
22e's. . another priceless addition IMHO to our
Dragonfly Community; Please check them out if
you are looking for EVEN MORE help on these
great Heli's . . He has at least #16 Short
Videos on repairing/setup/improving the DF22e,
as well as "in flight lessons/recordings"..
I know many of us/you may not at all need this,
but from my Newbie standpoint(about 6 months
ago), I found these a GREAT ADDITION to THIS
Walkera22E~Bible Blog HERE! :)
You can check out one of his vidoes here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8t-YHE18rs
and to the [right], you will see additional (#1-
16 i think), of all the others, subscribe, or
just visit his 'site' to see them all.

Two Garrett's? Thats almost a first.. :) hehe
Hey, very rarely have I ever met
another "garrett", especially with the same
letter spelling in the name. double r's, double
t's. . Interesting we should meet here.. in
Walkera Bible 'town'.. hehe.. Nice to see
another named Garrett. :)
I will post with my Callname; "X1705", to
differenciate our names in the future. :)

2 Garretts
That is wierd that we'd meet in a place like
this. anyway, does anyone know about the t

the way to do this and also the angle of the main

Almost ready to try.. again. :)
I just dismantled my entire 22E, and layed out all
the parts, and slowly put them all back in place,
replacing with a few 'repaired' ones I had just
received.. Now i am boning up on all the 22e
Videos, Blogs, and flying the Simulator
(PRE-Flight Sim), and I am hoping to 'try again'
within the next couple of weeks, will keep ones
posted.. (btw- I also made the "inner pin
adjustment" (moving it from the middle->the iner
most, I am also hoping that will settle my 22e
down a bit, i have heard it will make a BIG
difference, although, as if, when I go 3D, i will
need to return those to there middle place.. like
i see THAT happening anytime soon. haha. :)
~Garrett, *I* am originally from the Northwest,
Minnesota, family is rooted from Germany.
Good to see all the new posts again!

Great site John!
Greetings all
I ordered a 22E this last week and have been
rounding up all the info that I can find on it.
This is one of the most helpful sites that I've
found. As a nubie to R/c heli world I need all the
help that I can get.
The best site for actually learning to fly the
beast that I have found is "Radd's School of
Rotary Flight". After setting up The 22E according
John's
Directions I will try Radd's instructions.
I hope he knows what he is about.
Also I just won an E-Bay auction for a used 22E
and many , many spare parts. All for only $81.00.
I'm good to go. (i hope) Waiting for them all to
be delivered.
Is 65 too old to learn to fly?

22E preassembled but NOT RTF
very good site keep going on the info's
I just receive mine this week end and before
flying it i did adjust the servo's, swash plate
and blades pitch as recommended on this and other
web sites... then i went to try it out outdoor in
my parking lot. At 1rst it would not lift off even
at full speed, not even crawl on the floor??? at
some point i tried to make it move forward just a
litle bit. At that point the heli rocked in the
air so as a reflex i cut off the speed and down it
went into the bush. Got a few parts damaged of
course, but as i was dismantleing the head
assembly i noticed that some linkages where too
tight AND the pin that keep the lower swash plate
from rotating would not move higher then 1/2 way
thru the slot. This was due to some plastic flash
caused during manufaturing. This prevented the
swash plate from moving up freely. My guest is
when the servos where able to force the swash
plate pin thru that obstacle then the heli jumped
in the air.
Now i have to wait for some parts :(
My suggestion is when you receive your new 22E...
strip it down and check EVERY linkage for binding
AND the swash plate movement.
They should change the box labeling from "Ready to
fly" to "PREASSEMBLED"
Ciao!

Main Gear
Hi, was wondering if you know what the module of
the main gear is, I want to install a brushless
motor and need to order the correct pinion to
match.
Thanks

ouch!
Hi,
Glad to find a site about the 22e. I just
purchased a new 22e and I just crashed the hell
out of it. I fired it up to test it and didn't
even want to fly it. I had the throttle at a low
setting, but after turning off the transmitter
it went nuts. It took off at full throttle and
bounced over my cat, (that will teach it to go
after my little airhogs choppers!!!)cartwheeled
across the living room and landed in a smoking
pile of plastic. What the hell happened, has
this happened to anyone else? I want to rebuild,
but this is my first real R/C and I don't know
where to start. Any help would be great. Thanks,
Mark

sudeen lift off
I am new to this like alot of you.I purchased my
22e about a month ago.I wasn't trying to take off
when mine took off and broke a blade holder and
blades.I have changed the main shaft ,blades, ball
links everything aligns back the way they are
supposed to and yet i still have the same problem
of sudden pitch.I used a strobe light to watch the
movement of the linkages and servos.I noticed that
the oval universal links are stretching.Possibly
the oval links are rubbing the blade holders
preventing the free movement of the blade holder.I
don't want to shave down the rub spots yet because
i want to find the real problem.I also have tried
to set the pitch curves to what i have read on
here.Once they are set and i spin up i get no
pitch increase until i move the cyclic. When i
power down the pitches are all wrong and i have to
reset them.I have done this so many times i'm
tired of trying. Everything moves freely and the
way they are supposed to when the motor is
disconnected.

A thank you
I want to thank you for sharing your no how to
setting up the ccpm. Help me alot. :)

wont fly
maybe a dumb question but am new to the hobby
and my 22E does not want to fly only lifts up a
few cm's off the ground, running ok but seems to
need more power. do i need to adjust the
pit/plt? hope somebody can help me. thanks
|
RE: sudent lift off
reguarding the suddent lift off. afrter
experiencing the same problem with mine. I found
out that the slide for the swash plate (the slot
above the 2 rear servos)had some plasic burrs that
would prevent free swash plate movement, thus the
linkage bending. Also the flybar connector should
move freely up/down if you disconnect the 2 oval
linkage from the swash plate. The 2 guide pins
under it are easy to bend. Ciao!

walkera22e
I'm glad someone has finally started a good R/C
helicopter web site.(Won't mention any others).I
have a 22E and I love it! I haven't tried inverted
flying yet,but I will eventually.I bought a CNC
collective but have not installed it yet.I found
and bought(2) tail motors on ebay express
for6.49+4.99 shipping. Luv the videos! Keep 'em
coming.Thanks again.
|
walkera22e
Just found a CNC tail motor mount upgrade (CNC) on
the web.RC Mods in the UK has them for L9.99 +
shipping.
|
walkera22e
Also,Battery.com has great prices on batteries.
|
walkera22e
One more thing. hoobie.com has CNC upgrade parts
for main rotors at the best price.
|
CNC parts
I just tried to install CNC parts on my
22E.Expensive lesson!Trying to set the head to
level I over stressed the collective and separated
the plates.I will order a new set and use what I
learned which is this. Do not try to use the
connectors off the old plate. The eyes are too
stretched,use new ones. But most
importantly, remove the brass T shaped nails from
the lower control arms and move the connectors to
the inside(shorter throw)holes. The CNC swash plate
does not flex like the factory plate , and over
stessing it will cause it to separate from the
bearing,rendering it useless.Glad I found that out
before flying it as it would have crashed.I will
get all new parts from the shaft and main gear to
the flybar so it will be a dropin operation.Hoooby
sells ball joint pliers for assembly and
disassembly. They are the best way to go to prevent
damage to parts.I will let you know how it works out.

22E
To AAKE.My 22E has the same screw missing.Doen't
seem to affect anything.
|
22E
Just finished putting the original parts back on
my copter with some major adjustments. Hovers
perfectly and flies great. Was worried but I will
still try all CNC head parts this winter.
|
To Anthony
Have you tried tightening the allen screws on the
main rotor shaft(main gear,rotor head,etc.)?
|
Walkera1#A
Check out the new Walkera1#A on rcuniverse. I'm
upgrading.

22e
I'm still upgrading my 22e. If anyone knows about
more CNC parts, please leave a comment. It would be
much appreciated .Thank you.

shipping
Can anyone suggest a better place to buy 22E parts
where the shipping prices to Canada are
reasonable? A $2.00 part costs me $10.00 to ship,
there must be a better way.

CNC ball sizes
Great site John. Plenty here for all !
Thanks Mark for the heads up re CNC ball sizes.
Will be looking out for this now, when the metal
head turns up !!
Cheers all.

To WitC.
I assume you are in the UK.Have you tried R/CMods.
I ordered a CNC tail rotor mount and the price was
very reasonable,including shipping from the
UK.They have other CNC parts for 22e's.

22e
As you all know by now,if you have a 22e,they have
certain inherent problems.Mostly at hover.But
don't give up on it. I have found that once
adjusted they are a joy to fly!!The best price I
have found is at Hobby4Less.com. $98.99 with
training kit,extra blades,&spare battery!Other
stores,helihobby,heliproz,hobbystore,centuryheli&rcmods
all have parts.I'm going to get a new walkera 1#a
but i am going to keep working with my 22e as it
is my first good heli and it has never cheated on
me.Hang in there. Once you master your 22e, you
will have no limits were flying is
concerned. Thanks again for a great web site!
|
22e
Just found another good online
store.Wonderhobby.They have the new 22e version 2
for $99.00.
|
thanks
Great info, keep up the good work.
I recieved my 22E almost 3 weeks ago and when i
opened everything up they had supplied a LiPo
battery but a NiMh charger!!!So i got to use the
power that was in the battery(never got off the
ground)and am now awaiting the LiPo charger from
the company in Hong Kong(im in Canada).I have
adjusted my swash plate but cannot get the link
arms the same lenght,i am wondering if the
servos are not at the same level??Does it matter
if the link arms are a different lenght just as
long as the swash plate is level??
Can't wait to get a charger so i can try to crash
( I mean Fly)this thing!!

titanium cnc parts
I just found that there are titanium cnc parts for
some r/c helis being produced and sold . So far I
have not been able to find anything for 22es.If I

awsome little helo
first may i say what a great site, im 39 from
new zealand and a complete noob to helo flying,
got my 22e this morning, running a lipo stock,
and put 4 packs through it following RAADs
instructions and your setup, then gave a hover a
try, guess what - no i didnt crash, i held a 2-3
second hover about 6" off the deck and landed
it, man was i stoked, yes i have had my first
oops as well - dug the blades in and took the
edges off them!! bugger!! but a bit of ca and
epoxy and we are flying((practising)) again -
thanks heaps without a site like this i probably
would have done a heaap of damage - i reccomend
thee raad lessons to anyone that has one of
these helos, and set it up properley!! they will
fly, hell i hav'nt even done an hour yet and ive
been off the ground! - cheers guys , happy
hovering

Has anyone added a brushless motor and ESC to
their heli?
I added the walkera brushless motor and walera 30A
ESC but all i get is the heli spinning in circles
when i try to get elevation ? The main rotor
cranks upto speed in no time but not sure the tail
is spinning fast enough to stay straight.
How do i get the tail rotor to spin at the correct
speed to keep it steady?
|
Spinning with Brushless motor
Mike,
Maybe a stupid question but is the rotor head
turning in the right direction? I've got exactly
the same set up. If it isn't then swap any of the
three leads between the motor and ESC. That
should do the trick
|
Inverted Flight Mode
Gday all good site for info. Not sure if anyone
has posted on the problems you encounter if you
hit inverted flt mode. The heli goes crazy! The
blades can jam on the tail with motor going full
throttle (uncommanded). This will burn the motor
and speed controller in the receiver out in
seconds. Happened to me in first 5 mins of
owning the thing. Beware!
|
new owner
My 22E was delivered today UPS. I am riding
around at work just looking at the box. I cannot
wait to get home and give it a try. I have
always flown fixed pitch helis and I am a little
worried about trimming it out. Any tips are
welcome. Good luck with the website and I will
be back soon and let you know how it went. Todd

motor speeding up and slowing down
i just got a new 22e and even with the throttle
stick staying dead still the motor speeds up and
slows down. incidentally the motor recentley
burned out. i have a new one on the way but do
you think the problem was in the motor or speed
control??
|
Time for liftoff
I've Owned my 22e for a week now but haven't given
it full throttle yet!? I'm a complete beginner at
helicopter flying!
I've been practising with the controls at half
throttle to get used to turning left / right/
forward/ back etc just skimming the floor!
I think I want to give the helicopter full
throttle soon and get it up in the air! It's
really nice to know that the left hand side pull
is normal as this has been bothering me for a bit.
I must admit I'm a little scared to get it up in
the air but I'll give it a try!
If anyone has any pictures on what the helicopter
looks like when setup correct then that would be
great! I don't know if I've added to much pitch on
mine as the main blades look to be in a steep
angle? I need this thoe to get any kind of lift!
|
Thanks for this
This was my first Helicopter and I fell for the
RTF. I am a helicopter pilot and thought I could
handle it. Out of the box, I noticed that it was
too heavy in the tail and it kept drifting to the
right. I made the adjustments in the users
manual, which are not very good, but kept it to a
low hover. I have gone through two pairs of main
rotor blades and finally ended up breaking ball
linkage. The rest of the airframe seems to be
intact but I was unclear on how to adjust the
pitch. Thats how I found your site. When my
parts come in I will repair and attempt again. My
ego was quite damaged and I felt a little foolish
after paying so much just to have it broken. I
feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only
one who couldn't get it to fly right out of the box.
Thanks again, I'll be checking back often. Please
keep up with this site. I will bookmark.
Craig

Thanks For the Info
I also am new, have crashed and broken parts, what
to get it to work and will, hopefully with
information from your site.

Need a simulator cable
I am having a hard time finding a cable for my
transmitter to go to a USB for Mac. One was
advertised to come with my Walkera 22E, but did not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would
like to log some Sim hours prior to my next flight
attempt.

Yet another Beginner
A chance remark to my girlfriend saw Santa Claus dropping my
22e down the chimney. She got it from
www.theinternetmodelshop.co.uk who could not have been
more helpful to her and set the beastie up for beginner mode.
Ironically I shall now be talking to him on Monday as foolishly,
(and why do blokes do this,) I gave it too much beans in a small
place, lifted off beautifully and then careered suddenly right into
a solid object and like Craig, totalled the blades and broke a ball
linkage... Should have stuck totally to the MADD manual...
But I am looking forward to getting it right in the end... Will
keep you posted, I have already ordered a metal headset from
Hong Kong purely out of curiosity. Happy New Year to all..

22E Recommendations
Just a few tips from a novice for another
novice! Owned the 22e for 4 months now and
recommend metal head (stronger & saves time
rebuidling after crashes) brushless motor and
speed controller (standard motor's burn out way
too fast!) These two mod's are worth the money I
reckon. In general I think it's a great heli to
start on. Not that easy to fly but practice
makes perfect. Quality is dubious in a lot of
areas but the parts are fairly cheap to replace.
|
Help- Absolute total complete ROOKIE
4972 - ? - Receiver in manual shows 4 - connect
to speed control. On my22e there is nothing
connected and nothing - that I can see to
connect. Problem is it won't lift off. Spins
like mad everything SEEMS to be hooked up
properly - just won't lift... If this is the
wrong place to ask, please let me know.
Thanks, Dave
|
No Lift Off
Hi Dave cannot claim to be an expert at flying these but am
pretty good at crashing them so have had to reset and rebuild
my head set a few times. The blade pitch should increase as the
revs increase. Checkout how to set up the blade pitch in the
home section Should be 0 deg @ O throttle and 10 deg @ full
throttle can be set up by using hand set to check but longer
term adjust on the fly bar link. Buy a Pitch Gauge Money well
spent I think.. That might be the problem. Good luck G
If the blades have pitch it MUST lift off...... (I think)
|
22EEEEK
Absolutely and profoundly new with rc anything.
I was absolutely ecstatic to get my 1st. A 22E.
Read everything - some hard to understand -
misread throttle position...Had it about 1/2 on
when I turned on the power. Took off at a 45
degree angle and had an argument with a plant.
It lost. Waiting for parts... I have many
questions which this site is VERY helpful with -
thanks.. One thing thing that is beginning to
bother me though. I received a LiPo battery
with the 22. There is no mention of it anywhere
that I can find: Even the instructions don't
mention it. specs are 1300mAH 11.1V 10C. It
fits in transmitter and that's what I am using
it for. RIGHT??? My 22E stubbornly sits on the
floor with everything spinning madly and refuses
to lift off. Sounds like a common problem. I
have just found the site and when the new parts
arrive I will do the step by step. Then if I
need further help I will hollar.. For now I am
just a little concerned about the mysterious
battery. As I said - absolute amateur. Thanks
in advance for any help. Dave (live in Okangan
Valley, BC Canada)

Pitch Guage
Thanks for the advise re pitch guage. I am going
to try to see if I can get it locally- as soon
as parts arrive for repairs - before going on
the net - to see if I can get some interest from
the only 2 local hobby shops. So far... well
there is always the net. Thanks again. Dave
|
When they sell these things the parts manufacturers must rub
their hands with glee.
After another argument with gravity and the ground yet another
bent tail boom (thats No2 now) BUT the metal headset did not
break niether did any of the links and it went in sideways. So I
thinkl These are worth the effort.
The guy who runs the Internetmodelshop.co.uk reckons he did
100 pairs of blades before he got it right......
For UK based guys I have been ordering parts from Hong Kong
thro' e-Bay and they have been arriving NO problem within a
week/10 days. Good for bulk buying blades and rear rotors. (and
tail booms)
Trouble is I may end up with "all the gear but no idea....!"

Going to try again
Hi,
I have flown model gliders and planes for quite
a few years but always fancied a Heli. I new they
were difficult to self learn but I new best...I
bought a Walkera 22E last year and nearly got it
to the earths core after a week of trying to hover
the thing. Well its been put away for over a year
still in pieces. 3 Weeks ago I bought myself a
blade CX2 coaxial heli to ease myself into the
helis again. So after getting to grips with the
blade I have just ordered myself the ali upgrade
head to replace my very badly damaged original
plastic version on my Walkera, I am going to start
to rebuild/repair the Walkera for a new attempt at
the hover... wish me luck....

Great Forum - C of G adjustment
Hi,
thanks for providing this very useful forum.
After reading about the known C of G tail heavy
issue, I spent a bit of time changing things
around. The NiCad battery sits now in front
under the frame, sideways, the RX under the
frame behind the shaft axis, with the plugs
facing the rear. And Hey Presto, the CG is
almost neutral and this beast becomes
controllable. Beware of the CNC Full Head
Upgrade ex. Walkera.com etc. The tolerances are
very slack (bladeholder bearings etc) and I
ended up mixing and matching with standard
parts. What is your best experience with CNC
Upgrades?
|
Just oredered CNC Head
I have just ordered CNC head, should be hear next
week I will keep you posted...

lipo battery upgrade
hi there,
can anyone tell me what spec lipo battery and
charger i should get for my 22e? need to upgrade
from nimh
|
22e
The "spinning madly but won't lift off" problem
sounds like a dip switch problem. If the dip
switches controlling the servos are not turned
on,the blades will not swivel on command to
commence lift-off. c
Check your dip switch settings.Let us know if this
helps. There is no such thing as gravity, the Earth
sucks.Fly on!!!

22e cnc upgrade
Just received my CNC upgrade set from dealextreme

make it a drop in swap.$24.77 for all these sweet
parts seems to good to be true, but they're
here. Can't wait to see how much difference they
make.Come on spring!!!

Just looked at American science&surplus website.
They have a large selection of ball bearing sets
at very reasonable prices.Blade bearings are under
$4.00.

22e cnc upgrade warning
Recieved the cnc upgrade from dealextreme. Great
product, but I have a small warning you might
want to give consideration before flight.
Tighten all screws and ball conections. Had a
screw connecting the see-saw come loose during
spin up. (lucky I found the little b!##$r)
Afterword found a lot of the ball connections
very loose. FLY SAFE

Has anyone actually got Walkera working with FMS via USB on Windows XP?
I've trawled the Internet trying to work out how
to make the transmitter that came with my 22E to
work with a Chinese USB cable on XP. Has anyone
on the planet achieved this?. If so I'd be
grateful for step by step instructions. Thanks

CNC Upgrade loose screws
Hi All
Just to warn all of you that I too had a screw come out of the
see-saw, twice, causes one blade to loose pitch; fortunately
both times it was on the ground so I have put in longer screws
with a nut on the end now.
Also I spent one rainy day balancing everything including blades
and C of G. What a difference that made.
Top tip: buy tail booms and blades you will need them.... or at
least I do!!
Happy flying

Servo connections
Hi I would like some information. I removed all
the servo connections from the receiver some time
ago to replace the receiver. I though I would
remember where they went.Guess not. If someone
would let me know which servo, which receiver
slot, I could get back in the air. Thank you for
your help.
|
Servo connections
Hi Gus, my front servo is in #1, LH servo is in
#2 & RH servo is in #3. Pretty sure this is how
it came out of the box but if these aren't right
could someone else please let us know?

Tail rotor problem
Has anyone else had tail rotor problems since
fitting a brushless motor & ESC? Since fitting
the motor & ESC my tail rotor just "idles"
slowly & doesn't speed up when the throttle is
increased. Is there a setting that needs
adjusting? Thanks
|
ty
i dont do this often but i just got my helo and i
appreciate your input about everything. It was all
very informative. Holy shit get a degree in
engineering already!THANX ALOT!
|
Brushless motors
My stock motor 'died' apparently as a result of the blades either
hitting the ground or stopping after I hit a wall ( as you do...).
Apparently if you block the blades on a good dose of throttle
the voltage load on the internals from a fully charged lipo will
burn it out in an instant. They then just die very quickly....
Anyway I enquired about a brushless set up and was informed
by Jonathan at the www.internetmodelshop.co.uk that there is so
much torque that the tail motor cannot keep up to keep the heli
straight and will burn out or overload trying very quickly. So this
might be the reason for tail motor problems. So it looks like
brushless motors should be reserved for belt driven tail helis
and not fitted to 22E's unless the tail motor is beefed up as well.
Unless anybody of course knows different.
|
Tail rotor problems
Cheers Gram, You could be right, I hit a few
things while trying to get airborn & the std
motor died real quick. Have shelved the
brushless motor for now & gone back to a std
motor til I get things sorted (both me & the
heli!) In the meantime I'm keeping my parts
supplier busy! Can't speak highly enough of Greg
at Airbornerc.com in Australia, he's doing an
awesome job of keeping up with my demand for
spares (I'm in NZ).
|
hover
i'm a little cloudy on the hover. first off let
me get this straight.i add throttle it drift to
the left then i add a little right to
compensate ??right?and the more throttle i add
the more it lift right??

22e hover
oh yeah one more thing it's too fast what can i
do to slow it down controls too sensitive..

It's great to some infomation flowing here. I
still feel realy guilty for not adding more to

the band that I play in is getting busier all of

Have fun guys...I might get the chance to play

Sensitive controls
Hi june, I think if you move the swashplate
control rods to the inner holes on the servo
arms it makes things less sensitive. I haven't
tried it personally but have read it in several
places. If I'm wrong could someone please
correct me? Thanks
|
Sensitive Controls
Hi June go to this YouTube link and it will explain one way of
getting the controls 'right' http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=s8t-YHE18rs
There are a few other from George an Teresa there. You will also
be amazed at how sensitive you become with practice. There is
also a thing called ground effect which means once you are
three feet off the ground they become easier to fly as the air is
cleaner and it is not being affected by the reaction of the air
from the blades and the ground.
|
Tail rotor speed
Can anyone tell me how to increase the speed of
the tail rotor? I've got the tx trim hard over
to the right but the heli still slowly turns to
the left once it's off the ground. I've tried
increasing the gyro sensitivty but it didn't
help.

Reflexions
Dear everybody who learnt to fly an RC chopper
with walkera 22E. I'm a long way from Walkeras
to this date. But not becouse they can't fly. On
the contrary I fly my Walkera 22 E quite well
even in a moderate breeze. I'm even apt to
voucher for Walkeras electonics.
The issue is that we want a lot of people
flyinge RC coppers and they don'nt have to look
like modified eggbeeters. We all want to fly a
classic.
I don't want to fly a T'REX. I want to fly a
thing that flies waell and looks loke a
helicopter.
Yours Truly, Dani
